I've been a fan of Remedy Drive for years. They’re committed to working with anti-trafficking charity The Exodus Road to the point of going undercover to the Far East to help expose criminals + free sex slaves. I love this lockdown version of one of their songs which have formed part of the soundtrack of my time in confinement; Hope's Not Giving Up.

Time to break out the mandolin!! A cover of Bastille's breakthrough hit Pompeii. Lyrics: I was left to my own devices Many days fell away with nothing to show And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills Bringing darkness from above But if you close your eyes Does it almost feel like Nothing changed at all? And if you close your eyes Does it almost feel like You've been here before? How am I gonna be an optimist about this? How am I gonna be an optimist about this? We were caught up and lost in all of our vices In your pose as the dust settles around us And the walls kept tumbling down In the city that we love Grey clouds roll over the hills Bringing darkness from above But if you close your eyes Does it almost feel like Nothing changed at all? And if you close your eyes Does it almost feel ...

I had a request for this one from a former student speaking on behalf of a group of them. It was for many years the most popular of our worship songs at our school masses, to the point where we (the staff worship/rock band, the Manic Street Teachers) would get asked, for example, to perform it each year at the 6th Form Leavers' Ball. Lyrics: Oh I could sing unending songs Of how you saved my soul Well I could dance a thousand miles Because of your great love. My heart is bursting Lord To tell of all you've done Of how you changed my life And wiped away the past I want to shout it out From every roof top sing For now I know that God Is for me not against me For joy is in this place! Everybody's singing now 'cause we're so happy Everybody's dancing now 'cause we're so happy If only we could see your face And see you smiling over us And unseen angels celebrate

A cover version of History Maker by Delirious with a slight tweak to the lyrics in the chorus explained in the video. Lyrics: Is it true today that when people pray Cloudless skies will break, kings and queens will shake? Yes, it's true and I believe it I'm living for you Is it true today that when people pray We'll see dead men rise, and the blind set free Yes, it's true and I believe it I'm living for you We're gonna be history makers in this land We're gonna be speakers of truth to all mankind We're gonna stand, we're gonna run Into your arms, into your arms again Well, it's true today that when people stand With the fire of God, and the truth in hand We'll see miracles, we'll see angels sing We'll see broken hearts making history Yes, it's true and I believe it We're living for you We're gonna be history makers in this land We're gonna be speakers of truth to all mankind We're gonna stand, we're gonna ...
“Hurry Up and Wait” - MercyMe, written and recorded during lockdown

Lots of bands are writing, recording and producing songs and videos whilst in confinement. This one from the great US Christian band @mercyme put a big smile on my face. The astronaut who appears is a reference to their previous video for “Almost Home”, one of my favourite tracks + videos of the past year. The video tells a beautiful story that complements the song brilliantly.
