De La Mennais Brothers: Making Jesus Christ better known and loved by young people

Last Sunday week I undertook another of my crazy sponsored sporting exploits, this time to raise money to buy sports and audio-visual equipment to take out to Haiti when I take a group of pupils there in July. This time the context was a bit special given I’d not been well the previous few days (see below for details). It’s a few weeks now since I arrived at the shrine of St. Boniface in Fulda, Germany at the end of my 9 day sponsored cycle from Lourdes for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. It’s about time I shared some of my experiences.  I arrived in Fulda, Germany (home of the shrine to St. Boniface) on Sunday July 27th as planned, overall very happy with the ride. So far over £1,800 has been raised, including over £1,300 (inc. GiftAid) on the Justgiving website. After the success of last year’s Educational Project trip to Togo with 11 young people running summer camp activities for children in a secondary school and an orphanage (for which I did a sponsored cycle in 2006), I am this year taking another 11 SFX pupils to Uganda for a 17 day project. To raise funds for the 2 schools and orphanage where we will be working in Kasasa and Ibanda (sports equipment and audio-visual equipment) we have been having fund-raising events in school and a charity concert at the famous New Picket venue in Liverpool. To raise further funds, I, Brother James, undertake to cycle solo from Liverpool to the shrine of Notre Dame de la Salette at 6,300 ft altitude in the southern French Alpes (900 miles, 8 days) from May 24th to 31st.
