Day 9 - July 17th

Day 9 was another full day of activities with the local children. We all started to feel much more relaxed and comfortable with them I think today. Getting a ghetto blaster out (the one we brought here) with our mp3 players providing playlists helped to enliven the atmosphere, got us all dancing and provided a lively accompaniment to the sports and games in the morning. These included beach ball games, mini tennis, small group football drills, gymnastics, etc...

In the afternoon we had a large, tightly contested game of football (mixed teams, 8-6 the score) on the half of the full pitch that the children had managed to cut. Andy R. fell and aggravated a rib injury he got from the previous day and was in a bit of pain later in the evening. Come the next day, following treatment from Nurse Sophie (!), he was as right as rain.

Hope you're both having fun- the photos are great!I put messages on earlier in the week from Grandma and Auntie Ve but it seems hit and miss whether I do it right or not!Everyone is missing you at home- those that haven't gone Harry Potter mad that is! Its still raining every day here.Love Mum xxx

Transcendent God

Over the past few months I have become much more aware of the beauty of the Grail translation of the Psalms that we use in Morning and Evening Prayer (Divine Office) - I will write more about this in the near future - and I am also finding that this has rubbed off on my attitude to the other prayers in the Office. For example, the following hymn that we prayed just over a week ago. The words struck me as if I was discovering them anew, and this after having prayed (or simply recited?) them at least once a month for about 25 years.  The optimism of the imagery struck me most forcefully and I love the idea of God hearing our prayer "before we call", i.e. as the paslmist says elsewhere "before ever a word was on my lips... you knew me through and through" (I paraphrase).
